COSTA MESA — Funeral services for Eugene Hayworth Moriarty, a longtime executive with C.J. Segerstrom & Sons and World War II veteran, will take place in Santa Ana on Wednesday afternoon.

Moriarty died March 2 from complications with cancer. He was 91.

The Santa Ana resident started working for the Costa Mesa-based real estate development company in 1963 and became a part of the Segerstrom family when he married Ruth Ann Segerstrom, according to an obituary from his family.

The two were married for 65 years and had three children.

Ruth Ann Segerstrom Moriarty couldn’t be immediately reached Tuesday afternoon.

Moriarty served in the Marine Corps in World War II on the USS Block Island, in the Pacific campaign.

Before being deployed, he was called to Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia, where he helped make training films.

Moriarty was studying at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, after transferring from the University of Maryland, when he was called to active duty. He later went back to lecture at USC.

He served as the chairman of the board of BOMI International, an independent institute for property and facility management education, where he helped improve the curriculum for the Real Property Administrator exam.

Moriarty also served as president of the Santa Ana Bicentennial Committee in 1976 and was a member of the Navy League.

Born in Chicago on April 15, 1919, Moriarty came from a family of Irish immigrants, and he inherited the Irish wit.

Moriarty was also remembered for making a hole-in-one at Tustin Ranch Golf Course in 1991, the family’s obituary said.

He is survived by his wife, daughter Jeanne Moriarty, sons Richard and Donald Moriarty, and grandchildren Trenton, Cole and Grace Moriarty.

The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Fairhaven Cemetery, 1702 Fairhaven Ave., Santa Ana. The family asked that a donation to charity be made in lieu of flowers.
