The Festival of Children Foundation recently awarded $60,000 in grants to local charities for their work assisting children.

A panel of six judges working for the Costa Mesa-based nonprofit chose 10 charities from among 48 applications to receive a portion of the funds.

The recipients included the Costa Mesa-based Down Syndrome Assn. of Orange County, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley, based in Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley, and the Irvine-based organizations Families Forward and United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County.

The groups were honored Friday in a ceremony at the Capital Grille in South Coast Plaza.

“These member organizations of Festival of Children Foundation submitted proposals for tangible, measurable, collaborative projects that fulfill their mission and improve the lives of children,” Sandy Segerstrom Daniels, founder and executive director of Festival of Children Foundation, said in a prepared statement. “We hope this grant money will help these 10 dynamic children’s nonprofits achieve their dreams.”
