Power out at Lincoln Elementary

Share

A large-scale power failure left students and staff without electricity at Lincoln Elementary School in Newport Beach Friday, according to a school spokeswoman.

At 4:52 a.m. there was a 30-second interruption in service in an area of Corona del Mar and Newport Beach, and about 10 minutes later, 2,942 customers lost power because of a failed underground cable at Pacific View Drive and Marguerite Avenue, a Southern California Edison spokesman said.

As of 6:19 a.m., Edison had restored service to most of those customers, but Lincoln and about 280 customers in Corona del Mar were still without power, Newport-Mesa Unified School District spokeswoman Laura Boss.

At 3:12 p.m. Friday, Edison restored power to all but 69 customers and expected to restore the rest by 6:30 p.m., a spokesman said.

Phones and computers at the school were inoperable because of the outage, but students were dismissed at their normal times, Boss said.
