A Costa Mesa man who shouted racial epithets in a hate-crime attack was sentenced Friday to two years and eight months in prison, according to court records.

Chad Martin Jurjaks, 31, who is white, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of hate crime battery causing injury relating to his attack on two Latinos entering a 7-Eleven in Costa Mesa in March 2010.

The men, ages 42 and 26 at the time, were with family members when Jurjaks, whom police reports say was intoxicated at the time, shouted “F------ Mexicans!” and punched them both in the head without provocation.

In a Santa Ana courtroom, one of the victims said he is still afraid to go out and is still in therapy as a result of the attack last year, the Orange County District Attorney’s office said in a news release.

A restitution hearing was scheduled for May, although no amount has been set.
