New stores bloom at SoCo

South Coast Collection continues to display economic activity, with three businesses opening recently and three more expecting to do so in the coming months.

All six new tenants of the Costa Mesa shopping center, nicknamed SoCo, are exclusive to Orange County: Arc Restaurant, Lili Claspe, Wardrobe Ltd., Brown Jordan, Taco Maria, and Birdie Bowl and Juicery.

“Our vision for SoCo has always been to bring the best of the L.A. shopping experience … to Orange County,” Scott Burnham, president and chief executive of Burnham USA, developer of the center at Hyland and Sunflower avenues, said in a prepared statement. “Our expert commercial real estate development and operations team hand-selects each showroom, local artisan boutique, restaurant and purveyor to ensure we deliver the most inspirational, appealing, unique and high-quality experience to clients hailing from Orange County and beyond.”

Arc Restaurant, a roast house inspired by 1920s New York, recently opened its doors, as has Lili Claspe, which sells accessories designed by Stephanie Tchamanian. The 25-year-old Huntington Beach resident’s line of necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings are reclaimed vintage pieces that incorporate rare minerals and gemstones.

Wardrobe Ltd., a fashion consignment company, has also opened its first storefront. Owner Austin Deppa previously only offered his services online and for private events.

The store plans to offer high-end labels such as Chanel, Hermès and Louis Vuitton — a first for any store at SoCo’s OC Mix, a nearly 24,000-square-foot venue that houses 25 tenants, including Wardrobe Ltd. and Lili Claspe.

Brown Jordan, an El Monte-based outdoor furniture designer that started in 1945, plans to open its 15,000-square-foot West Coast flagship store in April.

Birdie Bowl and Juicery plans to start serving Feb. 25 at OC Mix. The bar’s products will include cold-pressed organic juices and acai bowls. It’s owned by Jee Shin, who also owns Milk + Honey at the Camp on Bristol Street.

Birdie Bowl is another first for OC Mix, which, after shortening its name from OC Mart Mix, celebrated its two-year anniversary in January.

In May, Taco Maria, a popular food truck run by chef Carlos Salgado, plans to open its first brick-and-mortar store at the OC Mix. Salgado uses local produce and meats, and seafood caught in the Gulf of Mexico.
