D.A.: Coach had 35 victims in child porn case
An Irvine baseball coach used Facebook to convince minors to send him pornographic images, prosecutors alleged Monday.
Zachary Reeder, 30, of Orange, was charged with 110 felonies, including 34 counts each of distributing pornography to a minor, contacting a child with the intent to commit a lewd act and using a minor for sex acts. Other charges include six felony counts of committing a lewd act upon a child and one felony count of bringing obscene material into California.
Some of the 35 known victims were 14 or 15, according to court documents.
Reeder posed as a young, blonde female on Facebook to lure boys into taking sexually explicit photos of themselves and sending them to him, Irvine police said.
Irvine detectives were investigating whether Reeder targeted victims while working at Servite High School in Anaheim, where he has taught history since fall 2008, police said.
Reeder also worked at Beckman High School in Irvine for four seasons, ending last year, as a walk-on assistant baseball coach, police said.
Reeder’s bail was set at $1 million at a hearing Monday, prosecutors said. He posted bond and was released Wednesday night, according to jail records.
His next court appearance is scheduled for March 11.
