UC Irvine police have arrested two people suspected of stealing a bike. One of them previously was arrested on campus for a similar crime.

Police on Wednesday arrested William Duane Myers, 42, of Lake Elsinore, and Hrisauvi Christina Paleologos, 39, of Garden Grove, after someone on campus recognized Myers from a UCI police crime bulletin, authorities said.

Officers discovered the two near a housing area with a stolen bike and arrested them without incident, police said.

Myers was booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools, petty theft and for a parole violation warrant, while Paleologos was booked on suspicion of receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools, petty theft, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and having a weapon on school grounds, according to a UCI police news release.

Myers, whom police had arrested in September 2010, was previously convicted of grand theft and possession of burglary tools, according to the release.

Neither suspect is affiliated with the campus, said UCI Police Sgt. Mark Arnold, who said bike theft on campus is an ongoing issue at the school.

Authorities encouraged students or others on campus to report suspicious activity to campus police by calling (949) 824-5223.

Police also published several tips for cyclists on the university website.
