Sanitary District seeks applicants

Share

The Costa Mesa Sanitary District is seeking applications to fill a vacancy on its board of directors.

The seat vacated by former Director Jim Fitzpatrick lasts until December 2014.

Fitzpatrick resigned the seat in January, saying at the time that he no longer wanted to defend himself from the Sanitary District’s lawsuit that alleged his prior concurrent service on the district and the Costa Mesa Planning Commission were incompatible.

Fitzpatrick has since been appointed to the Planning Commission. The district dropped its suit after his Jan. 14 resignation.

Interested applicants for the board seat must live within the Sanitary District’s service area, which consists of Costa Mesa, portions of Newport Beach and some unincorporated county areas.

Applicants must also provide a résumé, candidate statement, a description of a vision for the district and their perceived role as a board member, according to a news release.

Applications are available at https://www.cmsdca.gov or at the district’s headquarters, 628 W. 19th St., Costa Mesa.

The deadline is 3 p.m. Feb. 15.

Depending on the amount of applications received, the board may conduct a special meeting Feb. 19 to review the applicants and conduct interviews Feb. 22.

The district expects to have completed the process and chosen a new director by Feb. 27.
