A Costa Mesa man was taken into custody Wednesday on charges of grand theft auto and possession of narcotic paraphernalia, authorities said.

A second man, whose last known address is in Costa Mesa, is still at large, said Sgt. Phil Myers.

Officers arrested Adon Lee Woodward, 21, after a witness called police around 8 a.m. alleging that Woodward and another man in a red Volvo were possibly selling drugs to his daughter near Tustin Avenue and 18th Street.

The witness then followed Woodward and Anthony Thomas Guerrero, 26, until they suddenly stopped their Volvo in front of Harper School on 18th Street and fled on foot, Myers said.

Woodward was arrested immediately, but a perimeter made with help from Newport Beach police and the Huntington Beach police helicopter was unable to find Guerrero, who faces charges of grand theft auto and resisting arrest.

Guerrero, described as approximately 5-foot-7 and 160 pounds, was last seen wearing a plaid shirt and green pants, Myers said.

Woodward is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.

The Volvo was reported stolen on Jan. 19.
