YMCA to hold grand reopening Saturday

The Newport-Mesa Family YMCA on University Drive is hosting a grand reopening Saturday.

The YMCA is celebrating the renovations to its facility with an open house from 7 a.m. to noon at 2300 University Drive in Newport Beach.

Newport Beach Mayor Nancy Gardner proclaimed the day Newport-Mesa Family YMCA Day in honor of the event.

“We are very excited about this honor and grateful to Mayor Gardner and the Newport Beach City Council for recognizing the important role the Y plays in advancing youth development, healthy living and social responsibility,” said Executive Director Ron Erickson, in a prepared statement.

The open house will feature a number of activities throughout the day.

A Splash and Dash race will kick off the day at 7 a.m., followed by yoga at 8 a.m., a martial arts demonstration at 9 a.m. and a soccer scrimmage at 10 a.m.

From 9 to 11 a.m. attendees can get a taste of fitness, which will include martial arts, Y-Barre, Yoga Flow and Zumba, and from 9 a.m. to noon, attendees can get an assessment or sign up for a basketball league.

The YMCA will also host an e-waste drop-off from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
