Council approves $3 fee increase

Irvine City Council members last week unanimously approved a $3 fee increase for parking violations, which takes effectively immediately, according to a city spokesperson.

The increase will offset the same amount passed to the city from the state under Senate Bill 857, which was signed into law by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Oct. 8, 2010, according to a city staff report.

Under SB 857, the fees collected will go into the State Treasury’s Trial Court Trust Fund to pay for the cost of construction, repair and maintenance of trial court facilities, according to the report.

The increase will net about $21,000 annually, based on 2009 citation records.
