2 arrested at weekend DUI checkpoint

Two people were arrested and five cars were towed at a weekend DUI checkpoint in Costa Mesa, police said Tuesday.

Police stopped 778 of 1,005 vehicles that went through the stop at 17th Street and Raymond Avenue on Friday night.

Officers investigated five people on suspicion of driving under the influence, arresting two. Police handed out 19 tickets for various vehicle code violations, including driving without a valid license, and towed five cars in all.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
