Revitalization in Newport Beach

Lido Village Renewal

What: Architectural and other design guidelines for property owners who are remodeling or building new structures. Also, the guidelines apply to future public improvements such as sidewalks, street landscaping, streetlights and signs.

Area: Site of the current Newport Beach City Hall, the Lido Theater and Via Lido Plaza shopping center, Lido Marina Village, St. James Anglican Church, the First Church of Christian Scientist, and several retail and office properties.

Status: City Council to review design guidelines Tuesday. Other city improvements to be considered later.

Budget: At least $150,000 allocated for design work. Additional costs to be determined.

West Newport Landscaping

What: Trees, shrubs, planters and other landscaping for street sidewalks and medians with relatively sparse vegetation. Also includes plans for signs signifying the Newport-Huntington border.

Area: Three areas: Superior Avenue from West Coast Highway to Ticonderoga Street; Balboa Boulevard from West Coast Highway to 21st Street; West Coast Highway from Newport Boulevard to the Santa Ana River.

Status: City Council to review conceptual plans Tuesday. Construction projects would be approved later.

Budget: Expected $8.5-million design and construction costs, and $80,000 per year for maintenance.

Santa Ana Heights-Bristol Street South Landscaping

What: Trees, shrubs and signage for street shoulder that is currently filled with dirt and a chain link fence.

Area: Southeast Bristol Street from Irvine Avenue to Jamboree Road.

Status: City Council to review conceptual plans Tuesday. Construction projects would be approved later.

Budget: Expected $28,000 for design, $500,000 for construction, and $20,400 per year maintenance.

Corona del Mar Entryway

What: A widened and curved sidewalk, palm trees, curving walls that double as seating, and sidewalk space that could be used for art and music shows and holiday events. Plan would also alter traffic flow on East Coast Highway.

Area: East Coast Highway from Acacia Avenue to Dahlia Avenue, specifically in the median and the south sidewalk/traffic lanes.

Status: Neighborhood Revitalization Committee to review conceptual plans Thursday, then to City Council for review.

Budget: At least $76,000 allocated for design work, and $1.3-million estimated construction cost.

Balboa Village

What: Creating an economic development strategy, parking strategy and branding/visioning plans.

Area: Generally from Coronado Street to A Street, including businesses along Balboa Boulevard, in the Fun Zone, and around the Balboa Pier.

Status: Citizens Advisory Panel to meet Jan. 17.

Budget: At least $48,000 allocated for studies and other planning work.
