Lion’s Heart gathers food for O.C. families

Share

More than 150 volunteers descended on the Second Harvest Food Bank in Irvine on Friday to assemble 1,800 grocery boxes to feed families throughout Orange County.

The event celebrated the end of a nearly monthlong food drive orchestrated by Lion’s Heart, a nonprofit started by Laguna Beach resident Terry Corwin in 2004. The organization groups kids in grades 6 through 12 to work on community-service projects.

Food collection barrels were placed in several Orange County cities, including Laguna Beach and Huntington Beach, from July 29 to Aug. 17.

Each of the grocery boxes holds enough food to feed a family for one week.

Lion’s Heart has grown to 34 chapters in seven states, including Georgia, Connecticut, Colorado, New York, Texas and Wisconsin.
