Visit playhouses for homeless charity

Help eliminate homelessness in Orange County by supporting HomeAid’s 19th annual Project Playhouse. Seven dream playhouses are on display at the Irvine Spectrum Center’s Giant Wheel Court through Sept. 5. For a $5 donation per person, you can view the amazing interiors through the playhouses’ Dutch doors from noon to 6 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There’s even the first net-zero entry: an eco-friendly playhouse called the Ocean Adventure Lab designed by LPA Inc. (https://www.lpainc.com), an Irvine-based sustainable design firm. The Ocean Adventure Lab was built with reclaimed and recycled materials, natural wool insulation, a composite wood structure and its own source of renewable energy with photovoltaic panels that are both aesthetically attractive and energy efficient. For more information, visit https://www.projectplayhouse.org.

The event culminates in a live auction for the playhouses from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 10 at a private residence in Crystal Cove in Newport Beach. Tickets to the Newport New Moon Sunset Gathering event include cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and can be bought at https://www.projectplayhouse.org/cat3sub4.php for $250 each. HomeAid’s Project Playhouse helps raise funds to build housing for homeless families and individuals in our community. The Irvine Spectrum Center is at 71 Fortune Drive in Irvine.
