Greer’s OC: Good times on the Deck

Share

A new beachfront dining experience just launched at the Deck at Pacific Edge Hotel in Laguna Beach. It’s the place to enjoy casual beach fare and fresh cocktails, watch surfers or kick back in a cabana while getting a massage.

Chef Michael Ingrino created the new simple and light menu of seafood, steak, burgers, salad and paella, as well as specialty drinks and cocktails with fresh ingredients like cucumber, lemon, blueberry, basil and honey.

Whether you want a private party or a private retreat, the Deck also offers five spacious private cabanas with a variety of pampering services, including mobile airbrush spray tanning, mani/pedis and a photographer. Day rate charges start at $450.

What’s art, Doc?

You can be a part of Guinness World Record history at 2 p.m. Sunday by helping create the largest art class held in a single venue! The Chuck Jones Big Draw will be going on from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m at SoCo in Costa Mesa, and the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity will host a 45-minute drawing class on how to drawBugs Bunny. It costs $25 to participate, or $40 for a family (or group) of four.

Tickets for the event are available through https://www.eventcomplete.com. There must be more than 817 people at the art class to break the recent record from an art class held in Copenhagen in June.

Craig Kausen, of the Chuck Jones Center in Orange and the grandson of Chuck Jones, spearheaded the idea and thinks that his grandfather would have loved the idea of this huge gathering of people all learning how to draw Bugs Bunny.

The Chuck Jones Big Draw is a fun-filled event for all ages and artistic levels designed to inspire creativity at school, business, sciences, sports and fine arts.

Artists who will be on hand to offer their expertise during event include Stephen Reis, storyboard artist for “The Simpsons,” California surf artist Bob Elias and Christopher Scardino, the center’s teaching artist.

SoCo is at 3303 Hyland Ave. in Costa Mesa.

Walk with the big dogs

I’m super impressed with Road Runner Sports Shoe Dog system that can really help you find perfect-fitting running or walking shoes and help decrease the risk of injuries.

Let’s face it, most people choose shoes for their look, not how they fit. With the Shoe Dog process, you’ll discover what shoes will best address your arch, foot mechanics, body type and needs.

You’ll go through a 12-minute analysis, and from a slow-motion video replay of your gait, you’ll see just how you’re landing, and through a process of elimination, you’ll be directed to the right shoes that you should be wearing. It really will make a difference, and it’s free.

Road Runner Sports takes its Shoe Dog system seriously and offers a 60-Day Perfect Fit Guarantee. (VIP members who pay a $19.99 annual fee receive a 90-day guarantee and save 10% on purchases.) You can run in your shoes for 60 days, and if you’re not happy with the shoes, return them. Road Runner will find the right pair for you, or you’ll get your money back.

Road Runner Sports is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Costa Mesa Courtyards at 1835 Newport Blvd. in Costa Mesa. For more information, call (949) 515-9540 or visit https://www.roadrunnersports.com.
