Communities & Clubs: American Legion national official coming to Post 291
American Legion National Commander Jimmie Foster is scheduled to attend a dinner at Newport Harbor Post 291 on Monday, Dec. 13. Key members of Foster’s command staff will accompany him to the dinner. Also attending will be the parents of Michael A. Monsoor (Navy Seal, Iraq War), a posthumous recipient of the Medal of Honor, and Medal of Honor Recipient Tibor “Ted” Rubin (Army, Korea). From the American Legion Department of California will be Cmdr. Mark Foxworthy and Department Adjutant Bill Siller III. Post 291 Cmdr. Steve Spriggs will preside. Entertainment will be provided by Celebration USA, the patriotic singing and performance art youth group from Villa Park.
Stuffed animal drive
Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Costa Mesa and the Boys & Girls Club of the Harbor Area, the Builders Torch Club, a service-leadership club of fifth-, sixth-, and seventh-graders at the Boys & Girls Club in Costa Mesa, is holding a stuffed animal drive. The group is seeking donations for a local hospital of new or gently used stuffed animals. Donations can be dropped off between now and Dec. 15 at the Boys & Girls Club of the Harbor Area, 2131 Tustin Ave., Costa Mesa. For more information, contact Gia at (949) 642-8372.
Estancia Coast Classic
The 26th annual Estancia Coast Classic, sponsored by the Costa Mesa Newport Harbor Lions Club, will be held Dec. 27-30 at Estancia High School, 2323 Placentia Ave., Costa Mesa. Each year the club produces a printed program for the Classic. The club is seeking advertising support from community businesses and Estancia parents and alumni. Rates for ads in the program start at $75 for a business card ad and go to $225 for a full-page ad.
