Seeking employment can be a daunting task, especially in today’s economy. With the limited open positions, it seems more and more evident that one must expand on a job search by looking for jobs in a spectrum of industries. Broadening your interests can help guarantee a good career fit that allows you to focus on the work areas that motivate and interest you. With the help of the newest electronic resource, Career Transitions, available from the Newport Beach Public Library, job seekers will be able to cast a wider net and, hopefully, catch the job of their dreams! The Career Transitions database can be accessed from the library’s website at https://www.newportbeachlibrary.org from a computer at home or in the library.

This invaluable career resource takes you through five important steps in finding a new career:

Discover Interests: By answering a 180-question career assessment survey, users will be able to discover their own personal interests and get recommendations for industries and careers suitable to individual talents.

Explore Careers: Once the results from the assessment are compiled and reviewed, users will then be able to explore specific jobs in depth by selecting the preferred career recommendations. Each career has information related to what duties are performed, what experience and educational skills are necessary, the salary specifications for those entering the profession, various associations to join and companies to explore, as well as an overview of the projected growth for positions in this targeted field over the next 10 years.

Prepare Resume: Upon completing research on various careers, users can then create a resume to save, upload, or email to prospective employers right from the Career Transitions database. The resume dashboard takes users on a step-by-step guide through the resume building process. Each step is laid out with specific instructions, which will help make the resume writing process as painless as possible.

Improve Chances: This section provides a wealth of knowledge for users and is made up of excellent advice articles on topics such as interviewing, networking, applying, and negotiating contracts. In addition to links to articles, there is a link to the career blog “Daily Leap,” which also provides users with useful information and tools.

Find Jobs: The final step in this database allows users to browse, select, and apply for available jobs in their field of interest and targeted region. The Career Transitions database compiles job opportunities from various web resources, and allows users to link to those sites to find more information about individual positions.
