Community & Clubs: Luncheon location has changed
Wednesday’s meeting of the Newport-Mesa-Irvine Interfaith Council luncheon has been relocated from Hoag Hospital Irvine to the Hoag Cancer Center auditorium, on the lower campus at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, One Hoag Drive, Newport Beach.
The luncheon starts at 1 p.m. and the program will feature Robert Braithwaite, chief operating officer for Hoag Health System, who will discuss “Changes in the Health Care in 2011.”

Lions student speaker contest
Harbor Mesa Lions Club’s Student Speaker Contest winner was Isabella Gomez, from University High School in Irvine. Her coach is Nora Seager, from Costa Mesa. Isabella will go on to the Zone Contest to compete with other clubs’ winning speakers.
The theme this year is “Enforcing Our Borders: State Versus Federal Rights.”

Pearl Harbor survivor to speak
A “living history” of the attack at Pearl Harbor will be presented Feb. 23 by Jack R. Hammett, a retired Navy warrant officer, Pearl Harbor survivor and former mayor of Costa Mesa. The program will begin at 11 a.m. during the monthly meeting of the Newport Beach DAR chapter (Liberty Baptist Church, 1000 Bison St., Newport Beach). Informal American Legion gathering
Albert Rasch, a local attorney and member of a number of community groups, is inviting business leaders, members of the American Legion, Rotary, Scouts, church groups, the military and Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce to an informal gathering on Friday at the American Legion Hall, 15th Street in Newport Beach.
“The purpose … to visit the legion if you have never been there, to meet, talk, snack, drink, have dinner and/or dance to the band that starts playing at 7 p.m. Come and visit and stay as long as you want,” says Rasch.
