Letters From The Editor: Changes coming to Coastline

Share

Most newspapers aren’t growing these days. We are.

At least in a small way. The Coastline Pilot will expand its reach beyond Laguna Beach into two neighboring cities, Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel, beginning with the Aug. 26 edition.

We plan to cover government, features and sports in those South County communities. News from Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel will primarily appear on a new page called Neighbors, which is devoted to them. For Laguna Beach-focused readers, the news pages will remain nearly the same.

So why expand?

Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel residents often shop, play, dine and recreate in Laguna Beach. So when we looked at opportunities to cover new communities, it just made sense to jog up the canyon.

New arts section

We’re also expanding our coverage of visual and performing arts in a new section, Life & Arts. Though many favorite features, such as Artcetera, will remain, the new section will replace what readers know as Happenings.

The spotlight will remain on Laguna, but we’ll also write about the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa and other destinations that appeal to Laguna Beach residents.

And finally, we’re making some small design changes to the front and inside pages that will give us not only a cleaner design, but room for more content.

Where to find it

Getting the expanded Coastline Pilot should be easy. The newspaper will go to Los Angeles Times subscribers in Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel and Laguna Beach.

The Coastline Pilot can also be found at free newspaper racks in Laguna Beach. News from all three communities will continue to be covered as it breaks on coastlinepilot.com and theocnow.com.

I hope you enjoy our expanded news and arts coverage next week.
