Community & Clubs: Take Dad to a cook-off

Start your Father’s Day weekend off June 19 with a fun family event and support the YMCA after-school programs. Bring your family and friends to vote for your best chili recipe.

The event, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Costa Mesa, will be at the Central Orange Coast YMCA, 2300 University Drive, Newport Beach.

Club President Kim DeBroux said the schedule is as follows:

10 a.m. to noon: Explore the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve with guided tours and a scavenger hunt;

Noon to 2 p.m.: Chili competition, lunch and family entertainment; and

2:30 to 3 p.m.: Winners announced, prizes and trophies awarded.

Put together your best chili recipe and enter to win. The $35 contest entry fee includes lunch for three guests and a competitor. Or bring your family for lunch, $5 a person older than 2 years, which includes chili tastings and one hot dog and one soft drink. Other food items are available for additional charge.

Enjoy a fun afternoon of family activities and place your vote for best beef chili, best chicken or turkey chili, best vegetarian chili and favorite chili chef’s outfit.

COSTA MESA NEWPORT HARBOR LIONS CLUB FISH FRY BABY CONTEST WINNERS

In the 12 to 24 months division, the top were third place — Chengyi Wang, 21 months, daughter of Jimmei Wang, of Orange; second place — Kaleigh Pobog, 20 months, daughter of Nick and Sarah Pobog, of Costa Mesa; first place — Avery Contreras, 12 months, daughter of Rob and Shana Contreras, of Costa Mesa.

In the 6 months to 12 months division, winners were first place — Jagger Dulien, 9 months, daughter of Logan and Ashley Dulien, of Costa Mesa; second place — Jadon Coregaro, 9 months, son of Kristi and Elmo Coregaro, of Santa Ana; and third place — Mylie Murillo, 10 months, daughter of Karla and Oscar Murillo, of Santa Ana.
