Dr. James McKitterick III
Dr. James McKitterick III was born November 22, 1926, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2011. He attended Kansas State University where he graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He was on the K State Football Team and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. While attending school, he met his wife, Shirley Frazier. They were married April 7th, 1950. They have been married 61 years.
Dr. McKitterick was a veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific. He was a veterinarian for forty-three years; twenty-three years practicing in Mexico, MO and twenty years at the Washington Blvd. Animal Hospital in Whittier, CA.
He was also a philanthropist; he served as President of The American Veterinary Medical Association in both Missouri and California. He was President of the local Shriners chapter and Kiwainis. September 21st marks the official Dr. Jim and Shirley McKitterick Day in Mexico, Missouri, which recognizes and celebrates their many charitable accomplishments. The Governor of Missouri bestowed this honor upon them. Most important, Jim loved the Lord and was active in his church.
Dr. McKitterick retired in 1997 and then split his time between California, the family cabin in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, and an island in Rainy Lake, Canada. He loved to take Shirley dancing. He also enjoyed painting and woodworking, and everything involving his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley, two sons, Gary McKitterick and his wife Carolyn of Corona del Mar, CA and Jim McKitterick and his wife Michele of Laguna Hills, CA. He has 4 grandchildren: Shannon, Michael, Katie, and Kelly. Services were held Friday for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Jim’s memory to “The James McKitterick Memorial Fund”, South Shores Church, 32712 Crown Valley Parkway, Monarch Beach, CA 92629.
