Former Dominguez High School star Tyson Chandler, currently of the Dallas Mavericks, has made a play away from the court, buying a beachfront home in Newport Beach for $4.6 million.

Found along the Balboa Peninsula, the 1920s beach cottage features an oversized lot with a large center courtyard, 45 feet of frontage and views extending from Catalina Island to the Balboa Pier.

The 2,213 square feet of living space contains an open-space dining/living room with a fireplace, an ocean-facing sun room, a den and 1.5 bathrooms. Shared balconies sit off each of the four bedrooms.

A detached, two-car garage has a large workspace. Elsewhere on the grounds is an outdoor shower.

Chandler, now in his 14th NBA season, is averaging 10.5 points and 8 rebounds in 43 contests for the Mavericks this season. The 32-year-old center previously won a championship with Dallas in 2011 and was the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year the next season.

The property originally came on the market in April at $4.8 million with Chris Brigandi of Arbor Real Estate Professional attached to the listing, according to the Multiple Listing Service.

Chandler, who sold an estate in Rancho Santa Fe last summer, is already looking for a return on his O.C. investment; the beach house currently lists for rent at $5,800 a month.
