Lakers’ Kobe Bryant prices Newport Coast home at $7.6 million

As the Lakers continue to tweak their system this preseason, star player Kobe Bryant has made a tweak of his own, adjusting the price on his Newport Coast home to slightly under $7.6 million.

The gated residence, built in Mediterranean style in 1997, sits among tall palms in a guard-gated community with unobstructed ocean and city views. Walnut flooring and limestone finishes are a common theme throughout the 8,741 square feet of living space, which includes four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and three half-baths.

Among the features are an 850-square-foot gym, a hair salon and a home theater complete with a lobby, stadium seating and a wet bar. The master suite sports a private sitting room, a marble-lined bathroom and a newly added walk-in closet.

Though the residence lacks a terrarium consistent with Kobe’s moniker, Black Mamba, listing details do make note of one predatory feature: a shark tank in the wood-paneled office/library.

Outdoors, landscaped grounds of nearly half an acre center on a custom pool and spa with water features. A fire pit, an outdoor kitchen and manicured lawns complete the resort-like setting.

Bryant, 36, has looked like his familiar self during preseason scrimmages, showing off an array of moves while trash-talking his fellow teammates. The 16-time all-star is slated to start opposite Steve Nash in the Lakers backcourt after missing all but six games last season due to injury.

Public records show that the home last sold in October 1997 for $1.7 million. The property originally came to market in August 2013 with an ask of $8.599 million and was offered for just under $8 million earlier this year.

Jordan Cohen of Re/Max Olson & Associates is the listing agent.
