City employees union condemns weekend vandalism

The union representing some Costa Mesa city employees condemned this weekend’s vandalism at Skosh Monahan’s bar.

Early Saturday morning, someone reportedly threw a brick through the Newport Boulevard Irish pub’s front-door window with a threatening note taped to it. Officials said the note criticized Monahan personally and referenced the citywide layoff notices distributed last month.

“We abhor and do not condone such violent actions … we all have the right to promote our opinions and pursue our goals without fear of this kind,” Orange County Employees Assn. General Mgr. Nick Berardino said in the statement.

Two employees inside the business at the time were uninjured. Monahan estimated the damage at about $1,200.
