COSTA MESA — An Estancia High School graduate will be given the U.S. Army’s Silver Star medal in a pre-game ceremony at Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Saturday evening.

Daniel A. Foster, class of 2006, exhibited gallantry in action during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

On May 21, Foster fought off countless enemies and a truck headed into his outpost packed with 500 pounds of explosives. The vehicle detonated and severely wounded Foster, who continued to fight until reinforcements came, according to a media release from the Angels baseball organization.
