The Island Hotel in Newport Beach has earned a 2012 five-diamond rating from the Automobile Assn. of America (AAA) for the 20th consecutive year, according to a news release.

The annual rating evaluates restaurants and accommodations based on degree of service, consistent quality, and luxurious facilities and amenities.

“We are truly honored to have received this designation for two decades,” Island Hotel Managing Director Richard Evanich said in a prepared statement. “Our recent renovation and upgrades, including beautifully refurbished meeting facilities, have furthered our reputation as Orange County’s premiere hotel for business travel. We set an exacting standard for excellence and owe our success to the hard work of our professional team.”

Of the more than 30,000 AAA-approved properties, only a handful are in Orange County. The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in Dana Point and Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Coast also earned a five-diamond rating in 2011, according to the AAA website.
