Tickets to the 15th annual Balboa Island Holiday Home Walking Tour go on sale Saturday.

At the Dec. 11 event, attendees can view eight homes, ranging from original structures built in the early 1900s to new, multi-story bayfront homes, all decked out in holiday cheer, said Jeff Herdman, president of the Balboa Island Improvement Assn.

Tickets cost $25 and are available at Balboa Island stores Even Sisters, Island Home, Martha’s Bookstore, the Persimmon Tree and the Gift Box.

The event is the primary fundraiser of the year for the association, which works to “keep Balboa Island an attractive and desirable place to visit and live,” Herdman said.

Proceeds help the association decorate the neighborhood for the holiday season and fund events such as the annual Balboa Island Parade in June.

The association also organizes a snow day for children, visit from Santa Claus and tree-lighting ceremony on the island.

New this year, the event will coincide with a Christmas Walk through the Balboa Business Improvement District, which stretches down Marine Avenue.

Businesses will be offering special deals, promotions and entertainment to walk participants, Herdman said.

The Balboa Historical Society and Museum will also open its new facility at 331 Marine Ave. on the same day. The museum was formerly in an aging facility by the ferry landing on South Bayfont.
