Countless cities, organizations, religious groups and families will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks Sunday. Below is a listing of what groups are doing in your area of Orange County.

Sign a banner to support Marines, firefighters
From 9 to 11 a.m., Costa Mesa city officials will join the U.S. Army Reserve’s 304th Sustainment Brigade and 311th Signal Command at the Air National Guard facility, 2651 Newport Blvd. in Costa Mesa. A local musician will provide music. Attendees can sign two Costa Mesa Remembers banners, with one going to the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment in Afghanistan and one to New York’s Engine 213, Ladder 105 firefighters who lost seven firemen in the World Trade Center. Hear words of faith
At 10 a.m., Fairview Community Church’s the Rev. Sarah Halverson will yield her pulpit to Imam Sayed Moustafa Al-Qazwini of the Islamic Educational Center of Orange County to offer words of hope on a day filled with fear. Halverson said in an email the goal is to demonstrate that both Christians and Muslims are people of faith with a shared belief of compassion. Get involved with a nonprofit
From noon to 4 p.m., nonprofits will come together in Macy’s Home Store Wing of South Coast Plaza. The ninth annual People Helping People Volunteer Commitment Fair seeks to recruit volunteers for the next year and share information among nonprofits. Panelists speak on Muslim, Christian relations
In Irvine, a panel of religious and community leaders will discuss Muslim and Christian relations in the 10 years since the attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania. From 2 to 5 p.m. at Mariners Church, 5001 Newport Coast Drive, panelists will explore multicultural reconciliation in a program called “Lumen 9.11: Then, Now, Next.” Among the speakers will be Salem Al-Marayat, Carl Medearis, Michael Ly and Kevin James, a Muslim New York firefighter and first responder on 9/11. Music to find peace and hope
Newport Harbor Lutheran Church in Newport Beach will offer an evening of musical remembrance. Starting at 7 p.m., the church, joined with the Mesa Verde United Methodist Church, Orange County Women’s Chorus and UC Irvine’s Men in Blaque, will perform Mozart’s “Requiem.” Members of the Muslim, Christian and Jewish faiths will also offer words of peace and hope. A full orchestra will be on hand along with local singers to perform Mozart’s work. The suggested ticket donation is $20. Newport Harbor Lutheran Church is at 798 Dover Drive.
