An employee trapped inside a Newport Beach supermarket called police for help to get out of the locked building Thursday night, officials said.

The call came in at 10:42 p.m. from the Gelson’s at 1660 San Miguel Drive, said Kathy Lowe of the Newport Beach Police Department.

According to Lowe, the employee was locked inside at closing time.

No report was taken.

A store manager confirmed an employee was locked in the store Thursday, but did not provide additional comment.
