Restaurant company files for bankruptcy
It will be business as usual at Las Brisas Restaurant in Laguna Beach, despite its parent company filing for bankruptcy protection, according to a press statement from Real Mex Restaurants, Inc.
Real Mex, which operates almost 200 restaurants across the country — including the El Torito and Acapulco restaurant chains — filed under Chapter 11, the company announced Oct. 5.
“The corporate restructuring process will not impact the company’s restaurants or food production subsidiary, which will be open for business as usual,” the press statement reads.
“After exploring all options over the past several months, we concluded that this is the best and quickest way to complete our financial restructuring while minimizing disruption to our restaurants,” David Goronkih, Real Mex chairman and CEO, said in the statement.
“Most of our restaurants generate meaningful cash flow, and based on improving satisfaction scores across our core brands, guests are beginning to respond positively to the changes we’re making to improve,” Goronkih added. “We are taking this difficult but necessary step to allow us to move forward more quickly and fully implement our turnaround plan that we have discussed with our lenders over the last several months.”
Las Brisas Restaurant on North Coast Highway in Laguna occupies the former blufftop site of Victor Hugo’s, which had a long history in the city.
El Torito and Acapulco restaurants are throughout Orange County, with locations in Irvine, Costa Mesa and Laguna Hills, among other cities.
