July 24, 1932: "By defeating the Illinois Athletic Club stars, the Los Angeles Athletic Club water polo team won the right July 23 to represent the United States in the 1932 Summer Olympic Games. This is the first time a team has been chosen for the water polo matches; in previous Olympiads the United States squad was selected from outstanding players of the country.
