Love of reading: The Assistance League of Irvine is accepting donations of new or like-new children’s books for the Operation School Bell program through Oct. 26. Donations should be geared to children and youths ages 5 to 17. Donations may be made at the league’s Thrift & Gift Shop, 2452 Alton Parkway, Irvine. The location is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Fridays. Donate and receive: Orange Coast College is collecting e-waste, used clothing, household goods and furniture at the school’s Parking Lot C, at Fairview Road and Arlington Drive in Costa Mesa, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 26. Every vehicle that drops off a donation will receive two tickets to the Discovery Science Center in addition to a tax receipt. Funds raised from the donations will be used to build a sustainable garden classroom at the college’s Harry and Grace Steele Children’s Center. A shredder will be on hand for paper documents. A musical journey: The Pacific Symphony will host a 45-minute Halloween Masquerade for families at 10 and 11:30 a.m. Oct. 26 in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. It will feature music from “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and more. A musical carnival will begin 45 minutes before each show. Kids are invited to come in costume and participate in many hands-on activities. Tickets are $19 to $39.
