Retail Therapy: Cut down on water consumption

Drought intolerant: The Irvine Ranch Water District, 15600 Sand Canyon Ave., will partner with NBC4’s Crystal Egger, Vikki Vargas and Fritz Coleman to host a public discussion about how to save water during the regional drought from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 11. The first 500 people to arrive will receive a free kit containing products to help cut down on water consumption. Raffles and giveaways, as well as family activities, also are planned. Lights, camera, action: Woodbury Town Center, 6200-6460 Irvine Blvd., Irvine, will kick off its Friday Night Flix series at 7 p.m. Friday with “The Lego Movie.” Families are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the free outdoor film screenings. Popcorn will be sold for $1; proceeds will benefit the Irvine Public Schools Foundation. Future screenings include “Muppets Most Wanted” on Oct. 10; “Ghostbusters” on Oct. 17; and “Monsters University” on Oct. 24. Information: ShopIrvineCompany.com.

Green thumbs up: The Orange Coast College Horticulture Department, 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa, will host its Fall Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Plants on sale at the free event will include succulents, perennials and seasonal vegetables. Proceeds will benefit the department. Information: occhortclub.com.

Shops and sounds: The Crystal Cove Shopping Center, 7845-8085 E. Coast Hwy., Newport Beach, will begin offering live music from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays this week with Alturas. Cactus cool(er): The OC Fair & Event Center’s Centennial Farm will host a succulent container gardening class from 9:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 11 at its Silo Building. Learn to identify, care for and grow succulents, as well as how to arrange them in an attractive, take-home portable garden. Tools, pots and plants will be provided.
