Pet of the Week

Share

Rio is young and friendly. Somehow, this handsome and healthy boy became a stray. He is thought to be a shepherd/Alaskan husky mix, and his distinctive markings do suggest both of these breeds.

At about 2 years old and weighing a little over 60 pounds, Rio still retains some puppy-like enthusiasm for bear hugs and romping. His shepherd roots are clearly evident when he moves in circles, as if to herd anyone nearby. Although he would likely benefit from further training, he is generally well-behaved and also appears to be house-trained.

Rio will need regular brushing — as with any long-haired breed — to keep his thick coat looking its best. This is a large dog who will thrive on exercise and keep his adopter in good shape as a bonus.
