Pet of the Week

Share

Winnie, found as a stray in August, was underweight, fearful and difficult to coax from her kennel. Once out, she could become unruly, suggesting possible neglect or abuse in her past. However, care and patience have worked wonders.

Over several months, she gained weight and confidence. Now, at around 2 1/2 years old, the dog is healthy and spayed and up to 60 pounds. A pit bull mix, probably with Labrador retriever in her background, Winnie remains hesitant about collars yet takes well to a harness. Volunteers report that she is lively, affectionate and apparently house-trained.

Winnie’s brown eyes almost seem to plead for longer walks or even a run. Her behavior suggests an active household would offer an ideal environment to reinforce the socialization and training she has already received.
