Foodie fest: Orange County Restaurant Week launches Sunday and runs through March 7. Now in its seventh year, the event is a foodie dream, offering the opportunity to try prix-fixe menus at restaurants ranging from beloved Mexican comfort food to the area’s newest and finest. Lunches will cost $10 to $20 and dinners $20 to $50. Get your fill of old favorites and new dares, like burrata, calamari, tikka masala, salmon, caramelized scallops, mussels frites and much more. And if that isn’t enough of a draw, many local restaurants have paired with the Girl Scouts to create special cookie-infused desserts for Restaurant Week. Thin Mints Mousse Cake, anybody? On your mark: ULTA Beauty will open a new store at Mesa Center, 257 E. 17th St., Costa Mesa, at 10 a.m. Friday. The first 100 shoppers each day Friday, Saturday and Sunday will win special giveaways and free services, and free makeovers will be given all weekend. Vanguards of the avante-garde: The Pacific Symphony is partnering with experimental music ensemble wild Up on a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at the arts space Logan Creative, 800 E. Washington Ave., Santa Ana. A dozen musicians from each ensemble will perform instrumental music by members of Radiohead and the National, as well as works by Dmitri Shostakovich, John Dowland and others. Take a look: Westminster Mall, the Shops at Mission Viejo and Brea Mall will host the Simon Kidgits Club’s annual Book Blast event Saturday, featuring story time, giveaways and other activities for parents and kids. At the Shops at Mission Viejo, the “Olivia” book series will be featured; the event will run from 10 a.m. to noon in the upper level near the Play Area. At Westminster Mall, the event will be from 10 a.m. to noon on the lower level in Target Court. At Brea Mall, Book Blast will be from noon to 2 p.m. in Center Court.
