Pet of the Week

Ruby is indeed a precious gem. This petite pet arrived in September after her time ran out at an overcrowded Los Angeles County shelter. Soon it was discovered that she was pregnant, and now, after having given birth to puppies, she is finally available for adoption.

Ruby, thought to be about 5 years old, is a Chihuahua mix with signs of fox terrier in her markings. This quiet exemplar of good behavior patiently waits for her walks, appears to be house-trained and is well-mannered around other dogs. However, her most distinctive quality is her loving attitude toward people. She relishes being held and petted, without being demanding. When little Ruby made an appearance at the City Council — on a Tuesday, apropos of her name — many no doubt were charmed.
