Movie being shown at Crystal Cove

Beachgoers might find something more than just buried treasure in Crystal Cove on Thursday night.

The Crystal Cove Alliance will screen the film classic “Treasure Island” on the beach, according to a news release.

“We picked the 1934 version of ‘Treasure Island’ because it was partially filmed at Crystal Cove,” said alliance education manager Sue Magdziarz. “There is a long history of filmmaking at Crystal Cove, and this movie night is one way that Crystal Cove Alliance and Crystal Cove State Park celebrate this history.”

The free screening begins at 8 p.m., after a pirate shanty sing-a-long show with Bill Dempsey at 7 p.m. Dempsey has been singing sea music for 20 years, according to the alliance’s website.

“Come early with your friends and family to have a picnic on the beach and enjoy the sing-a-long,” Magdziarz said. “Bring a beach chair, blanket, warm jacket and a flashlight.”

Day-use parking is available for $15 at the Los Trancos lot. The film will be shown in the historic district near Cottage No. 13. For more information, visit https://www.crystalcovealliance.org.
