Library to host pet adoption event

Visitors to the Newport Beach Central Library might take home more than just a book Saturday.

Pets will be up for adoption from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Friends Room at the library, 1000 Avocado Ave.

The event comes as a complement to the library’s summer reading program, which is themed “Paws to Read.”

“Children love to read about animals, and family pets make great listeners for children learning to read, so pairing up summer reading with a pet adoption day makes a lot of sense,” Debra Walker, coordinator for the library’s young adult and children’s services, said in a news release.

The event was organized in collaboration with the Newport Beach Animal Control department and the Orange County Humane Society.
