Pet of the Week

A petite dachshund named Winnie (think Winnie the Pooh) didn’t let his size matter when protecting his master during a recent attack, though the dog suffered a broken jaw in the process.

This heroic dog was hospitalized at Mesa West Pet Hospital in Costa Mesa after his master, a homeless man, approached an animal lover who was feeding stray cats to say Winnie was not able to eat after being kicked in the jaw.

Winnie was soon connected with the Newport Beach-based Community Animal Network, which raises funds for local animals. The cost for Winnie’s jaw surgery is $1,236, which needs to be raised through donations. Winnie will be hospitalized during a 10-day recovery before being returned to his homeless companion.
