Wine-tasting to benefit poor children

The Big Canyon Country Club will host a wine-tasting benefit Thursday for the Wooden Floor, a Santa Ana nonprofit that offers dance classes for low-income children.

The seventh annual Keep the Promise Wine Tasting Benefit begins at 6 p.m. at the country club at 1 Big Canyon Drive, Newport Beach. Last year, the event netted more than $200,000 for the nonprofit, according to a release.

The wines, collected and donated by Newport Beach residents Janice and John Markley, hail from Europe, South America, Australia and elsewhere.

“We are so thankful for the support that Janice and John Markley provide by allowing guests to enjoy these wines, which in turn helps us keep the promise we make to each of our students that from here, they can step anywhere,” Dawn S. Reese, executive director and co-chief executive of Wooden Floor, said in a statement.

Cost is $350 per person, $250 of which is tax-deductible. For reservations, call (714) 541-8314, Ext. 124, or visit https://www.thewoodenfloor.org/winetasting.
