Pet of the Week

Arco had a home but without microchip identification and a way to locate his owners is now available for adoption. He is an extremely nice cat that was found inside a chain-link fence behind an Arco station.

Community Animal Network has come to recognize that many people relocating to a new home often lose their cats that might just slip out the door.

An important tip when arriving at your new home with your cat: Put the pet carrier with your cat inside in a small bedroom with the door closed. Keep the carrier door closed for at least an hour and then open the door. The cat may choose to stay in the carrier and peer out and accustom itself to the smells and the surroundings.

Allow your cat to explore the house only after it feels comfortable and is lounging out in the open and on top of things. This can be a week to three weeks. A cat doing “the soldier crawl,” or hiding under things is not feeling safe.

Always educate yourself about the local predators. Urban coyotes are found even in the most unlikely neighborhoods. Birds of prey such as the Great Horned Owl and Red Tail Hawk can prey on house cats and small dogs. So keep your small animals indoors.
