Friends of the Libraries: How to MashUp your media
As public libraries direct more of their resources toward teens, a group of libraries across the nation has studied best practices in technology program implementation using rich media in a program called Media MashUp. The program also intends to provide direction for libraries in implementing organizational change to support this technology-rich youth programming because “literacy in the 21st century needs to address the need for a larger set of skills that involve technology skills, higher-level program solving, cooperative relationships and a global perspective.”

Literary Orange
Literary Orange, a celebration of authors, readers and libraries, is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Irvine Marriott. Ann Hood and Marlo Thomas are the keynote speakers. A number of authors will be there, participating in moderated panels, signing books, etc. There are authors of magical realism, women’s stories, mysteries, poetry, food, memoirs, fiction and nonfiction, travel and even a panel on young adult literature.
Some authors’ names are: Sarah Cornwell, Ivy Pochoda, Sarah Jio, Lynn Sheene, Edward Kelsey Moore, Victoria Chang, Leslie Lehr, Joyce Goldstein, Diane Rossen Worthington, Kamal Al-Faqih, Rhys Bowen, Steph Cha, Judy Muller, Marc Wanamaker, Vanessa Diffenbaugh, Peggy Hesketh, Matt Coyle, Harley Jane Kozak, Lisa Napoli, Gail D. Storey, Lynne Thompson, Karen An-hwei Lee, Kendare Blake, Jessica Brody, Maurene Goo and Andrew Kaplan. There are several agents (Julia Drake and BJ Robbins) who will talk about the business of writing.

At the Mesa Verde Library
Attend the Mesa Verde Library Open House from noon to 3 p.m. April 12.
There will be live music featuring Jazzy Ash and the Leaping Lizards, a flapper-era jazz band at 1 p.m. For a sampling of their music, visit https://www.jazzyash.com.
From a library card decoration contest to a scavenger hunt, from brain teasers to crafts, there will be plenty of activities for everybody. Come to this event and learn about the library’s fabulous service and collection. If you have questions, call (714) 546-5274.
On Tuesdays from 11 to 11:30 a.m., bring your preschooler (ages 2 to 5) for stories, finger plays and songs. Toddlers are welcome with an accompanying adult. Older siblings are also welcome. Registration is not currently required.

At the Costa Mesa/Donald Dungan Library
Zine adult workshop, with a talk from San Diego zinester David McHank of the zine Perpetually Twelve, is at 3:30 p.m. April 12. Attend, learn and discuss all about zines! Don’t know what a zine is? Think magazine. There will be some supplies available to make a zine of your very own, but you are free to bring materials.
Toddler Storytime is from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays. Bring your child for stories, fingerplays, songs, crafts and more! Toddlers and preschoolers are welcome to attend, and no registration is required.
Children and their families are invited to take a place at the Duplo tables and build a creation from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays.
Family Storytime occurs from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Children are welcome to come in their pajamas and bring their favorite stuffed toy while they listen to stories, sing songs and join in crafts. This activity is open to children of all ages and their families. No registration is required.

At the Costa Mesa Technology Library
Preschool Storytime, which provides participants with headphones to listen to videobooks, is at 11 a.m. Tuesdays.
From 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, volunteers will help you master basic computer skills. Sign up for these one-on-one learning sessions at (949) 515-3970.
