League of Women Voters Luncheon

‘Fun with Molecules’

‘I Found It in a Book’

Paul Tracey will play the song flute, orchestral flute, piccolo, African mbira, kalimba and guitar in a concert for families where books will play a part. The concert is at 11 a.m. in the Friends Meeting Room at the Newport Beach Central Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. Admission is free, but space is limited.

Culinary Competition

Gourmet food truck chefs will compete against one another by using seasonal ingredients, which they will shop for at the SoCo Certified Farmers Market. The competition will start at noon at the South Coast Collection, 3315 Hyland Ave., Costa Mesa. A food drive to collect non-perishable foods, canned items and dry goods will also take place to benefit Someone Cares Soup Kitchen.

‘A Global Strings Journey’

The Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings will play a free concert of musical pieces from Norway, Spain, Japan and Africa at 3 p.m. at the CU Center, Concordia University, 1530 Concordia West, Irvine.

Alternative Christmas Market

St. Mark’s 28th annual Alternative Christmas Market is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 2200 San Joaquin Hills Road, Newport Beach. Admission and parking are free. Worship service will continue as usual at 9:30 a.m. The project is underwritten by St. Mark’s Peace and Justice Commission, which means that all funds raised go to the participating charities.

Sunday Musicale

Kara Masek and Tom Vendafreddo will perform classics from the Broadway musical songbook at 3 p.m. in the Friends Meeting Room at the Newport Beach Central Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. Admission is free, but space is limited.

Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration

The 17th annual Interfaith Celebration of Thanksgiving is at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Costa Mesa, 420 W. 19th St., Costa Mesa. People from all faiths are invited. A reception will follow an interfaith service and performance by choirs. Two cans of food will be the admission charge and they will be donated to local charities.
