The Crowd: Doris Roberts fronts Newport fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Assn. [Corrected]

Share

The Orange County chapter of the Alzheimer’s Assn. held its fifth annual “Visionary Women” luncheon at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa.

FOR THE RECORD:
In the Nov. 5 column “The Crowd: Doris Roberts fronts Newport Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Assn.,” Antonello Ristorante should be listed as in Santa Ana, not Costa Mesa. Also, the event titled “Canyon Acres raises funds at Antonello Ristorante” is separate from the “Spooktacular 2011” event. The photo captions also had the incorrect names for those photographed.

Fronting the affair was five-time Emmy Award winning actress Doris Roberts. The co-star of television’s “Everybody Loves Raymond” helped event organizers raise an impressive $75,000 to fund local Alzheimer’s services as well as advance ongoing research.

Chaired by Kirsten Mangers with support from the Visionary Women’s Leadership Circle members Julia Argyros, Jacque Dupont, Susan Johnson, Lauren Kear, Sandra McDaniel, Beverly Newton-Redfern and Marla Robinson, the upbeat luncheon spread the all-important message of hope to both those suffering and to those caring for the victims of Alzheimer’s disease.

‘Evening under the stars’

The Costa Mesa High School Foundation raised a remarkable $29,000 recently at the inaugural “evening under the stars,” held in the beautiful Noguchi Gardens.

The foundation partnered with the city of Costa Mesa and the Costa Mesa Conference and Visitor Bureau to create the party catered by none other than Maestro’s Steakhouse.

High school students from Costa Mesa handled the music and entertainment. All of the proceeds, with funds raised through sponsorships, tickets sales and silent auction items sales, benefit the school directly.

THE CROWD runs Thursdays and Saturdays. B.W. Cook is editor of the Bay Window, the official publication of the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach.
