Community & Clubs: Interfaith Hunger Walk set to meander through Upper Newport Bay
The 23rd annual Interfaith Hunger Walk steps off at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 from Our Lady Queen of Angels School, at Jamboree Road and East Bluff Drive in Newport Beach. Hundreds of walkers from different faiths, age groups and walks of life will walk along the beautiful Upper Newport Bay, according to Bob Johnston, the lead organizer. There will be live music, games, food, drinks and prizes awarded at the end of the 4K/7K walk.
A quarter of the proceeds from the walk will benefit local organizations, including Share Our Selves Jewish Family Services, O.C. Interfaith Shelter, Catholic Worker and Stand Up For Kids. Crop Walker can designate their gifts to other approved international hunger-fighting agencies such as the American Joint Jewish Distribution Committee, CARE, Lutheran World Relief, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, World Relief and other agencies.

The Costa Mesa Senior Center, 695 W. 19th St., is sponsoring a magic show on Saturday, Oct. 22, featuring Nolan the Magician, dinner and a fundraiser. Interfaith lunch
Resources for the Elderly will be the topic of the Newport-Mesa-Irvine Interfaith Council luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 , at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dover Drive and 16th Street, Newport Beach.
The event is open to the public as well clergy and leaders of area faith communities, according to Rev. Julie Elkins, Council president and pastor at First United Methodist Church of Costa Mesa.

Shakespearean theory
The 21st annual Movie Screening benefit on Oct. 27 at the Lido Theater, sponsored by the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor, will feature “Anonymous,” a political thriller advancing the theory that Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford, in fact penned Shakespeare’s plays.
The food portion begins at 5:30 p.m., according to Club President Bob Wood and the movie will be shown at 7 p.m. Tickets, at $60 each, covers food and the movie. VIP tickets are $90, and includes preferred seating and free parking.
