Substance Abuse Prevention

The OC Substance Abuse Prevention Network holds its annual Showcase of Community Agencies at the Costa Mesa Community Center, 1845 Park Ave. The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and costs $15.

Friendship Bench

Rotary Clubs of Newport Beach and Okazaki-South, Japan, will dedicate a park bench in the southwest corner of Irvine Terrace Park, near Coast Highway at Seadrift and Evita drives, Newport Beach. The bench will be dedicated at 10:30 a.m. in honor of past Okazaki-South President Masao Kato, who died in May, for his efforts in fostering sister city ties between Okazaki and Newport.

OCC Transfer Day

Orange Coast College Transfer Day is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the campus quad, 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa. Representatives from as many as 66 colleges and universities will be on hand at the free event, which will be open to the public.

Museum Excursion

Newport Beach Arts Commission is organizing a daylong trip to the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena. The chartered bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. from the parking lot at the Newport Beach Central Library branch, 1000 Avocado Ave., and returns around 4 p.m. Tickets cost $75 and include bus ride, lunch and private tour of the Norton Simon. Chef Auction

Costa Mesa GOP

Police Chief Tom Gazsi will be on hand to meet community members at a meeting of the Costa Mesa Republican Assembly. The event is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Dakota Room of the Costa Mesa Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Ave. Tickets cost $5 but admission for first-time visitors is free.

Kurt Vile and the Violators

Fun Zone’s 75th

The Balboa Fun Zone marks its 75th anniversary by rolling back tickets for rides to 1936 prices. Between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., people can ride the soon-to-be dismantled carousel for a nickel, the Ferris wheel for a dime, Harbor Cruise rides for 25 cents, as well as visit the ExplorOcean/Newport Harbor Nautical Museum for 5 cents. The Fun Zone is at 600 E. Bay Ave. on the Balboa Peninsula.

Sunset Celebration

The third annual Sunset Celebration benefiting the Newport Bay Conservancy will feature food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
