Hommage to The Dude

The opening reception for “Joe Forkan — The Lebowski Cycle,” a painting exhibit, is from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion, Orange Coast College, 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa. The exhibit blends masterpieces of Western art with images from the 1998 film “The Big Lebowski.” Pavilion is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closed Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.

Opening of OCC Theatre

Season

The Orange Coast College Theatre Department opens its 2011-12 season with “Seascape with Sharks and Dancer,” by playwright Don Nigro. 9/11 10th Anniversary Events

9 a.m. to 11 a.m.: City of Costa Mesa 9/11 commemoration, U.S. Army Reserve Base, Air National Guard, 2651 Newport Blvd., Costa Mesa.

10 a.m.: Service of remembrance and hope, with guest speaker Imam Sayed Moustafa Al-Qazwini of the Islamic Educational Center of Orange County. The event is at Fairview Community Church, 2525 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Lyon Air Museum commemorating 9/11 by offering free admission on Sunday to all first responders, such as police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, 911 operators and dispatchers. The musuem is at 19300 Ike Jones Road.

Peter Kote will be leading the eight weeks of the free “It’s Your Money” workshops from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays at the Newport Beach Public Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. The workshops promise to “provide attendees with education and practical solutions to financial and estate planning issues, so they can be in charge of their estates during their lifetimes and beyond,” according to a release.
