Trend Watch: Taking the guesswork out of denim

Share

The greatest shopping friend known to women may have just arrived at Bloomingdale’s at South Coast Plaza.

The Me-Ality takes the guessing out of sizing, style and best fit when it comes to finding that perfect pair of jeans. I recently tested it and was pleasantly surprised at its measurement accuracy.

Here’s how it works: You step inside this special booth — fully clothed — for about 10 seconds where scanners take your measurements via a special imaging system. When it’s done, you get a bar code with your specific data, which is used to help select the perfect size and fit for you in a style of your choice — boot cut, skinny or straight leg. No endless trips to the fitting room to try on various denim.

You can even sort the selection by your preferred designers: AG, Hudson, Citizens of Humanity and so on. Me-Ality will also tell you which styles and brands are your best fit. The results are pretty spot-on and even better is that prices are listed. And your profile is kept in the database and can be updated as well.

Get ready to sweat.

Pilates and indoor cycling studio Sweat HB hits Huntington Beach on May 1. The new studio, at 21184 Beach Blvd., is the “brainchild” of Trina Elmore, a personal trainer. Elmore has “helped people return to a life of confidence, strength and freedom in movement for more than 20 years,” according to a news release.

“We offer a full schedule of classes six days per week and provide something for everyone regardless of age, condition or fitness level,” Elmore said in the release. “Our studio utilizes state-of-the-art equipment in combination with a modern understanding of human bio mechanics to deliver the remarkable healing power of exercise.”

Sweat HB will feature RealRyder cycling bikes, which allow riders to “turn, tile and lean, closely simulating the fluid sensation and total body challenges of actual road cycling.”

The result is a workout that “delivers a comprehensive, cardio-intensive upper and lower body workout, going well beyond the limits of a traditional stationery bike or a spinning class.”

And in honor of Pilates Day, Sweat HB will host free Pilates classes for all from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3. Instructors will offer free 30-minute Pilates classes such as mat, reformer and jumpboard sessions.

The right stuff

Get the right fitting bra at the We Heart a Great Fit event, which hits Nordstrom stores this weekend.

“A bra that fits you perfectly can make you look three inches taller and five pounds lighter,” said Nordstrom spokeswoman Kristin Frossmo in a news release. “It’s an instant wardrobe update — all your clothes look better and you feel better, too.”

“Fit Stylists” will be on hand Friday and Saturday to help shoppers find the perfect bra, which will only take about 10 minutes, and the fitting is complimentary. Not thrilled about a professional in-store fitting? Shoppers can also use Nordstrom’s online bra guide.

For every bra bought in the store or online, Nordstrom will donate $2 to the Young Survival Coalition, which is dedicated to the issues young women face after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Nordstrom is at South Coast Plaza, Fashion Island and the Irvine Spectrum. For more information, visit shop.nordstrom.com.
